Preparations April 29, 2009

It took a while to think of what to name this post, and this title came across as the most apt one. So many preparations are going on now; for SYF, for alumni practice, for work, tuition, etc. And there’s something important that I am personally preparing for.

Anyway, it’s slightly scary how 3 weeks have flown by without me posting anything. The scary part is how fast time flies and how lazy I am :\ Actually, I do want to post occasionally, just that the only times I feel like posting something is when I’m feeling upset, and I don’t want to make my blog into some emo rant diary. It would be quite boring if all my posts were about how much I hate myself and degrading myself right. So no-no for that. This blog should be filled with happy stuff as far as possible :D

So yes, a gist of my April:

  • Dad’s birthday dinner @ Ritz
  • Dim Sum with Sean and Puaybing @ Ah Yat :D :D
  • Goooooooood Friday ♥
  • NTU interview
  • New tuition kid
  • Prodikeys @ Stamford Pri (FINALLY an assignment from the company)
  • AC Band visits & soundcheck
  • B&J’s Free Cone Day with Em :)
  • SSO Organ Symphony (=Symphonic Metamorphosis)

Oh, I should complain that I really hate to spend my (hard-earned) money on CAB FARES ): Especially if I know I can be on time but somehow I end up late. Like that day, I got stopped in Taka by two ‘wellness coaches’ to do a health survey, which turned out to be selling a slimming meal-substituting drink product and I was late for tuition. And the other day, my bus took super duper long to arrive so I had to take a cab to Stamford. Given that I earn $15 for one hour at Stamford, taking a cab there is almost equivalent of spending my pay of the day. I either have really terrible transport estimation skills or LTA is out to piss me off. Rar :\

Talking about Stamford, take a look at my Prodikeys kids:

This is the result of having no headphones. Luckily, the school purchased headphones by the second week so the kids stopped complaining as much. In Pioneer Pri (I did relief for a couple of sessions there), they didn’t have headphones for more than a term so you can imagine the trouble.

Teacher teacher no sound!
Teacher teacher cannot hear!
Teacher teacher why I press then got no sound!
Teacher teacher very soft!
Teacher teacher he push me!
Teacher teacher go toilet!
Teacher teacher!
Miss Ho!
Miss Ong!
(My colleague is Mr Ong)
Mrs Ho! (They married me to a Mr Ho)

And so on. Teaching in a primary school made me slightly worried about whether I was like that back then. I really hope not.

Will update soon, I hope. Night!

How I can make such a stupid mistake. I hate myself.

One week of intensive practice + one terribly long soundcheck = Not a very good concert. My right thumb was so stressed from the competition pieces ): I like Dragon second movement, but I’d like it much better if it were in in tune. I think so far all my Mus’art start-of-year concerts are always count-until-you-die type of concerts.

“wah, 数到很辛苦” “ya lor”

Oh well, quite an experience. Last-minute (failure)  flowergirl, wth lol. Coma, hahaha.

Where did my habit of blogging go?

Anyway, I went to Malaysia last Thursday to pay respects to my grandfathers and great-grandfather. Car rides are so tiring :\ On Saturday night, Sean Pb and I went to Zw’s house to mj. I’m still a noob at it. Oh and we did our best to save electricity during Earth Hour haha :D We had supper with Yd Mx Wt and Dr Lee after that. Went to watch Dr Lee’s last concert with Westwinds on Sunday.. Yup.

Watched SYF on Tuesday with Amos and Jerel. Kiasu us went to queue up at 7.45AM for morning tickets and rushed out to queue for afternoon tickets once morning session ended. Alex joined us at noon and bought lunch for us, yay :) Soon the IB people came to watch too, and ACSI did really well :) Congratulations to the Gold with Honours! Yay to Symphonic Metamorphosis haha :D After that we rushed to Esplanade for ACJC band concert. (And unfortunately I think both of you are freakin deaf.)

Anyway, watching SYF is really an experience by itself. I’m sick of Overture 1 after listening for just one day and I bet I can memorize and sing it for you right now. Plus, it’s kinda creepy as I start to realize that Overture 1 and the second movement of my compo might have derived inspiration from the same piece – Scotland the Brave. Yes Amos Chen, I admit it now :\ Whatever it is, Dr Tang did a great job composing the two overtures and I salute him! Wish I could compose like that ): I really like his harmony and voicing! I like Overture 2 a lot but perhaps it’s cause I’m quite sick of the other haha. Right now, the pieces played by various bands that day are swirling around in my head. I hear a mix of pieces, it can be Ross Roy one moment and Overture Jubiloso another, and it’s kinda irritating. Plus, pieces for this Sunday’s concert is sounding in my head too :\

Talking about that, come for my concert! :D Mus’Art Wind Orchestra, this Sunday 5PM @ VCH, tickets at $10. We’re playing our WMC pieces Atmospheres (set piece), The Butterfly Lovers and The Elgin Sound. We’ve a guest conductor from Holland (Dr Hardy Mertens’ student) and we’ll be playing his arrangements Arirang and A Story of Stars. Btw, all pieces above are world premieres except Atmospheres haha :D He’ll also be conducting Year of the Dragon which is a woodwind killer. Come support me :D
